General Yasser Abbas, Deputy Executive President of the General
Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), alongside the
Permanent Mission in Geneva, participated in the 14th session of the
Investment, Enterprise and Development Commission of the United
Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which was held
in Geneva, from April 29 to May 1, 2024.
The Commission focused on exchanging experiences and best practices in
implementing business facilitation and investment policies to support
sustainable development, and examining ways to use digital business
facilitation and investment promotion tools to enhance digital
government practices.
The Deputy Executive President of GAFI participated also, as a
panelist in a session on Investment facilitation for sustainable
development. He highlighted Egypt’s efforts to enhance an
investment-attractive business environment that adheres to the
principles of law, transparency and governance, in addition to Egypt’s
efficient infrastructure, trained workforce, large consumer market and
its numerous agreements and partnerships with regional and
international economic blocs. He further discussed the steps taken by
GAFI to improve the business environment, simplify the procedures
taken to operate free zones, and enhance the climate of investment.
In the meantime, the Permanent Mission continues to follow up on the
recommendations issued by the commission, to make the best use of it,
in order to enhance the business environment in Egypt and attract more
foreign investments.
