GAFI CEO visits the expansion of the Schneider Electric factory in Badr City

Mr. Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), and Mr. Sebastien Riez, President of Schneider Electric for the Northeast Africa and Levant region, made an inspection visit to Schneider Electric factory in Badr City, which is the largest factory for low and medium voltage panels in the Middle East, to review Schneider's expansion plans.

Electric Schneider factory was established in Badr City in 2009, with a production capacity of 6000 medium voltage switchgears and 3500 low voltage switchgears annually. In addition, it provides digital solutions in the fields of energy management and automatic control to ensure achieving the highest efficiency in sustainable ways.

The company exports more than 30% of the factory's production to more than 30 countries, and provides 600 direct jobs opportunities.

The two sides discussed the company's expansion plans with the aim of increasing the factory's production of low and medium-voltage panels, modern smart ring main units, and 400 volt low-voltage panels. The company aims to localize the industry and increase the local component, which currently amounts to 40-60% of all the factory’s products; this came after the company's 10 million euros investment to add a new production line at Badr factory during 2020 and 2021.

Mr. Hossam Heiba said that the new investments made by Schneider Electric have many positive economic and development impacts, as such investments are consistent with the government’s direction to localize the electrical industries, increase the local component in them, and expand export activity. Moreover, the company plays a pioneering role in transferring its technology to the Egyptian industry.

Sebastien Riez, President of Schneider Electric for the Northeast Africa and Levant region, said: “Egypt is a regional hub for Schneider Electric in the Northeast Africa and Levant region, and it is a key market for us in which we see promising opportunities for growth and expansion. We are committed to strengthening our investments in this country, increasing the local component, supporting exports, and training and developing local workers who have experience and competence, as we believe that local manufacturing is the key to economic growth.”

He also stressed the importance of the support provided by the Egyptian government in order to enable the company to contribute to achieving economic and social development in Egypt.

The Schneider Electric factory produces 24 kV and 12 kV medium voltage distributors, in addition to implementing a line to produce smart and modern ring main units (RMU) and 400 volt low voltage panels.

Schneider Electric's technological solutions have contributed to the implementation of a number of State projects to produce energy from renewable sources and real estate projects. Schneider Electric began its operations in the Egyptian market in 1987.

It has made a total investment amounting to € 300 million over the 35 years of its presence in Egypt.
