The Prime Minister witnesses the opening of the Amazon warehouse in the “10th of
Ramadan”
"Amazon" invests more than EGP one (1) billion in Egypt, provides more than 3000 jobs,
and owns more than 15 delivery stations all over Egypt.
This evening, Prime Minister, Mostafa Madboulym witnessed the opening of Amazon
warehouse in the 10th of Ramadan city at Sharkia Governorate, in the presence of Dr.
Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Nevin Gamea,
Minister of Trade and Industry, and Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab, Governor of Sharkia,
Counsellor Mohamed Abdel Wahab, GAFI ECO, Ronaldo Mouchawar, Vice President
of Amazon for MENA, and Omar Al-Sahi, General Manager of the company and
Souq.com in Egypt.
After the opening, the Prime Minister confirmed that the government continues to seek
to attract more foreign investments to establish various projects in all sectors. Moreover,
he added that the Egyptian market is promising, and has wide opportunities for
investors and businessmen, and we welcome them. In addition, he added that Abdel
Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt, always directs to enhance the role of the private
sector as an important partner in achieving development, and we, as a government, are
making every possible effort to work to overcome any obstacles that may prevent this
from being achieved for all investors.
In return, the company's officials expressed their feeling of pride with the opening of the
major "Amazon" warehouse in the 10th of Ramadan city by the Prime Minister, stressing
the company's continued efforts to expand its operations and commercial activity to
include all parts of the region.
Ronaldo Mouchawar explained that this renovated warehouse is located on a surface
area of 28 thousand m2
, and is considered part of the company's investments in the field
of logistics services in the Egyptian market. He noted that the warehouse aims to
provide an experience of faster shopping and delivery to fulfill the demands of online
shopping customers; in addition, it will ease further provision of products than ever to a
larger segment of customers in Egypt.
At the same time, Vice President of Amazon noted that the company invests more than
one billion Egyptian Pounds in Egypt, providing more than 3000 job opportunities, and
owns more than 15 delivery stations at the Republic. The Egyptian market occupies the
first rank in terms of Amazon's investments in the African continent.
He also pointed out that Amazon's new investments confirm the company's firm and
continuous commitment to support and enhance the economic sector. The company is
keen to bring the best technologies and logistical innovations to the region, which will
advance the level of the e-commerce sector and its prosperity.
On his part, Omar Al-Sahi, General Manager of Amazon and Souq.com in Egypt,
indicated that this warehouse is the first of its kind in the African continent, pointing
out that Amazon's investments in modern infrastructure, advanced technology, and
high-level services align with the Egyptian government's action program. At the same
time, he noted that the company is working to support SMEs in Egypt to expand their
business via the Internet.
He also confirmed that "Amazon" supports the digital transformation process in Egypt,
through a series of advanced updates on various operations in its warehouse. Omar Al-
Sahi said that "Amazon" investments in the field of logistics have led to an increase in
the storage capacity of its warehouse in 10th of Ramadan City, in the framework of
preparation for launching the Amazon Egypt website.
He also pointed to the company's role in maintaining the health and safety of its
employees, customers and partners, by taking many measures related to encountering
COVID-19.
The Prime Minister and his entourage toured the various sections and departments of
the warehouse, where Dr. Madbouly is acquainted by the work cycle inside the
warehouse through advanced technological systems that serve the processes of receiving,
storing, selecting, packing and shipping products to customers.
The Prime Minister also listened to an explanation about various machine learning and
artificial intelligence techniques that would support employees in the warehouse
operation process, starting with defining the optimal selection path, through
determining the most suitable type of packaging for the product, and ending with smart
applications that choose the best way to reach customers.
